When King Bhumibol was in power, military coups, government changes and street movements were frequently seen in Thailand, which have brought great disturbance to the stability of the country and even the security of neighbouring areas and have aroused wide concern from the international community.Under the background and from the perspective of political party system and government authority, this paper analyses and reflects on the causes of political turbulence in Thailand during the reign of King Bhumibol, expecting to privide some practical reference to the stable development of other developing countries. This paper is divided into four parts. The first part is about the theory of political stability and the research horizon of this paper. The reason why the theory of political stability has become an important topic in the study of political theory is that it is the basic condition for political development and the basic guarantee for realizing the political development goal.Specifically, political party system and government authority are the two core elements of political stability theory. And from the perspective of these two sub-theories,this paper analyses the political stability problem of Thailand in the Bhumibol era.The second part mainly analyses the manifestations of political turmoil in Thailand during King Bhumibol's time. The frequent military coups, government changes and street movements will be analysed in that they have directly endangered Thailand's political stability and national development. The third part mainly analyses the causes of Thailand's political turbulence in the Bhumibol era.Two conclusions have been drawn at the end this paper. The first one is the defect of the party system. The low level of institutionalization of Thai political party system directly affects the exertion of political function;the influence of asylum relationship in traditional political culture tends to overweigh party interests and thus triggers conflicts. The second one is the legitimacy crisis of government authority. The authority of the King of Thailand threatens the authority of the government;malversation of government officials and inadequate implementation of public policies have triggered political instability in Thailand. The fourth part is the enlightenment drawn from Thailand's political stability problem in the Bhumibol era.Based on the analyses of the two causes as political party system and government authority, which arouse the political stability problem in Thailand in the Bhumibol era, this paper concludes that only by establishing an excellent political party system and actively enhancing the authority of government can Thailand achieve political stability and can its rapid development be ensured.Today, for Thailand in the post-Bhumibol era,the issue of political stability remains an urgent problem to be solved in the process of modernization.Only by perfecting the political party system and enhancing the authority of government can the political stability of Thailand be truly realized.
