National Role Performance:The Comparative Study Of China And U.S. In Regional Governance Of Central Asia

As a classical theory of sociology and psychology,role theory is instructive for us to understand the actions of individuals and groups.In fact,role theory has a theoretical system which includes role expectation,role enactment,role conflict and role adjustment.In the 1970 s,Holsti introduced this theory into international studies,then it began to influence studies of foreign policies.Role theory in international relations emphasizes that the behavior of state is usually to meet the expectations of alters,it also practices its own role conception.It is in the process of intercation that the actor completes the performance of its own role.In terms of the process of role performance,national role concept is the prerequisite of state,alter's expeactation is the reference for state to conduct selfexamination,and the consistency between the role concept and role expectation will affect the entire process of performance.Combined with the process of role performance,this paper selects the role performance of China and the United States participating in Central Asia regional governance.While reviewing the role performance of China and U.S.,it combines the effects of regional governance to evaluate and compare the role performance of both countries.It is found that the difference between China and U.S.in regional governance is closely related to the different role concepts.Role expectation,ways of role enactment,role adjustment and role conflict,all will incfluence the effect of role perfomance.In this regard,we can find that the performance of both countries is reasonable,but there are differences after assessment.At the same time,both are providers of regional public goods,the types of their products are different,the main reason can refer to the process of role performance.In a word,by comparing the role performance of China and U.S.in regional governance,it is helpful to understand the present situation of Central Asia,also benifit to clarify the future direction of governance in this region.
