| In General,Brazilian Jewish immigrants experienced four stages: Portuguese colonial period,Dutch colonial period,World War I and World War II.Jews in Brazil gradually became the upper social class.The Jewish Union of Brazil-Israel is a pan-Brazilian Jewish organization,which plays an important role in the integration of Jewish immigrants into Brazilian society.In the process of building relations between Brazil and Israel,Brazilian Jews play three main roles: Firstly,Brazilian Jews and their organizations were supporters and practitioners of Zionism,they were an integral part of the Zionist movement,and they had great influence on the realization of Zionist goals.Secondly,Brazilian Jews have a profound influence on Brazilian policy towards Israel.In the Arab-Israeli conflicts,Brazilian Jews have unconditionally supported the Israeli government,and often forced the Brazilian government to take a position in favour of Israel and opposed Brazil’s Arab policy.Thirdly,after the establishment of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Israel,Brazil has actively strengthened and enhanced bilateral economic and trade relations,the role of Brazilian Jews is obvious,mainly reflected in the positive role played by the Brazilian-Israeli Chamber of Commerce and Industry.Brazil’s relations with Israel have been influenced by Brazilian nationalism,trade deficit between Brazil and the Middle East States and political relations in the process of building relations between Brazil and Israel.The dual identity of Brazilian Jews is the most deep-rooted reason that Brazil plays an important role in the construction of relations with Israel. |
