After WW?,the US-Thai alliance experienced " intimacy in the early cold war","balance in the late cold war"," confusion in the 1990s"," transformation in the war on terror","rebalance in Asia Pacific" and "fluctuations after trump took office ".From the perspective of the overall trend, the relationship between the United States and Thailand showed the characteristics of "overall fluctuation weakening" due to the changes of alliance environment. This phenomenon is related to the external environment faced by the alliance and the strategic differences between the two countries. At the same time, the Chinese factor also plays a more profound influence on the US-Thailand alliance with the growth of China's national strength. The influence of China on the US-Thailand alliance experienced five stages: positive substitution at the end of the WW?,negative threat at the beginning of the cold war, positive promotion at the end of the cold war, neutral competition in the 1990 s and the Asia Pacific rebalancing, and neutral deconstruction after trump took office. The influence of Chinese factors on the US-Thai alliance is characterized by "from positive to negative, then to positive, and finally to neutral".On the trend,it presents the characteristic of "overall fluctuation type strengthening".In the face of China's rapid rise, the "new alliance dilemma" faced by the alliance has become more prominent. To better reach the strategic target of "peaceful rise",China should use a more flexible and effective "wedge strategy",in the maintenance of China-US relations at the same time, the implementation of the "double wedge strategy" of Thailand: one is to Thailand as a "wedge" break into the US alliance system, explore the interaction of China with America's Allies, enhance mutual understanding, reduce the wrong strategy;Second,by means of "economic ties","security cooperation","timely compensation",etc.,China and Thailand are closer to each other, distancing themselves from the US-Thai alliance, and completely removing the element of "containing China". |
