Wedge strategy can play an important role in the process of alliance collapse. The meaning of wedge strategy refers to that a country, when facing the actual or potential threat of the target alliance, takes measures to weaken, limit and destroy the target alliance by exerting its own initiative,so as to achieve the goal of disintegrating the target alliance. The means of wedge strategy mainly include cooperative strategy and antagonistic strategy,in which cooperative strategy can be divided into three seed strategies: security assurance, mitigation and inducement, while antagonistic strategy can be divided into three seed strategies: coercion, subversion and conquest. There are three main influencing factors in the choice of wedge strategy, one is the nature of the target alliance, the other is the domestic political factors of the members of the target alliance, and the third is the relationship between the implementing country and the target country. The reason why cooperative strategy can play its role is that the country has the nature of seeking advantages and avoiding disadvantages, while the reason why antagonistic strategy can play its role is the dilemma of alliance.Cooperative strategy is a more moderate strategy, which is more likely to win the favor of the target country, while adversarial strategy is a mandatory strategy, which requires more resources and costs more. Therefore, the implementation of the priority cooperative strategy of Congress,In the late period of the second British Japanese Alliance, the problem of British Japanese alliance began to become obvious. On the one hand, the contradiction and conflict between Britain and Japan became more and more serious. On the other hand,Japan’s expansion of power in the Far East threatened the interests of the United States, which prompted the United States to consider using the wedge strategy to break up the British Japanese Alliance. At first, the United States kept a wait-and-see attitude towards the alliance and missed the opportunity to eliminate the potential threat of the alliance. After the war between Japan and Russia,Japan replaced Russia as the main challenger of American far east interests. The United States re recognized the British Japanese Alliance and began to think about using the wedge strategy to deal with the threat brought by the alliance.First of all,the United States has applied the cooperative strategy and the confrontational strategy to Japan, but it has not achieved the desired results.Later, the United States turned its strategic focus to the United Kingdom, using a cooperative strategy, while with Japan, using a composite strategy of cooperation and confrontation. On this basis, the U.S.further strengthened its wedge strategy, and used a composite strategy of cooperation and confrontation against the inclusion of Britain and Japan, which ultimately led to the collapse of the British Japanese Alliance. In the process of the collapse of the British Japanese Alliance, the United States,as an external check and balance force, played a crucial role. The United States used a series of wedge strategic means to intensify the internal contradictions, shake the foundation of the alliance, establish an alternative mechanism, and finally achieved the collapse of the alliance. At present, the United States regards China as a strategic competitor and actively uses or seeks allies to contain and attack China. In order to cope with the negative impact of the American Asia Pacific Alliance System on China’s peaceful rise,China can learn from the strategic experience of the United States in successfully disintegrating the British Japanese Alliance, adopt cooperative strategies for South Korea,Thailand,Australia and other countries, ease its security concerns about China, weaken its dependence on the United States, and expand the degree of interdependence of Asian countries. We will implement confrontational strategies against Japan, the Philippines and other countries to increase the cost of Anti China Alliance.
