| After the end of the Second World War,the two camps led by the United States and the Soviet Union launched a comprehensive Cold war on a global scale,focusing on politics,economy,military,ideology and other aspects,among which the split of the Sino-Soviet alliance was one of the important events affecting the process of the Cold War.In the past,the academic discussion on the reasons for the breakdown of Sino-Soviet alliance was mostly analyzed from the perspective of the internal contradictions between the two countries.However,in international politics,the changes in the relations between countries would be influenced by other external factors besides internal factors.The United States was undoubtedly one of the external factors that had an important impact on Sino-Soviet relations and their breakdown."Wedge strategy" in ancient and modern Chinese and foreign are widely used in international politics and international relations,international relations actors in order to achieve the forestall potential opposition alliance form,or to have formed the alliance to disintegration,or trigger a conflict or even hostile alliance restructuring alliance strategy target,the integrated use of a variety of strategies,such as politics,economy,military,culture,A strategy to achieve the above strategic goals by means of confrontation or adaptation is a complex combination of art and science.At the same time,the "wedge strategy" is also an important strategic tool for the United States to pre-hinder and split the Sino-Soviet relations.The "WEDGE strategy" adopted by the United States in order to forestall and divide the Sino-Soviet alliance and weaken the strength of the socialist camp of the Soviet Union is an important strategic means of its national containment strategy,which plays a certain role in accelerating the process of splitting the Sino-Soviet Alliance.The "wedge strategy" of the United States toward China and the Soviet Union was conceived in the background of the continuous retreat of the Kuomintang and the friendly development trend of Sino-Soviet relations.It experienced three stages: initial application in 1949-1950,initial adjustment in 1950-1956 and re-adjustment in1956-1964.Its strategic choice has also experienced a transition from "promoting change with harmony" to "promoting change with pressure" and then to "regulating by division".Because of the "wedge strategy" itself has the character of long-term,indirect,so the "wedge strategy" in the division of the Sino-Soviet alliance has not been formed its specific effect,but the "wedge strategy" of both on the subjective intention of it,or from the objective facts to the role of produce certain reasons,the Sino-Soviet relations influence is profound and significant.On the one hand,the "wedge strategy" backfired in the early stage of application,but objectively promoted the promotion of Sino-Soviet relations and the process of forming an alliance between the two countries.On the other hand,after two adjustments,the "wedge strategy" of the United States did play a certain role in widening the differences between China and the Soviet Union and accelerating the rupture of the Sino-Soviet alliance.With China’s rapid development,profound changes have taken place in the international balance of power.As the power gap between China and the United States is narrowing,the United States increasingly regards China as a potential strategic competitor.Although the Cold War has long since ended,the "Cold War mentality" of the United States has not stopped.We can still see the shadow of "wedge strategy" in the national security strategy of the United States,especially the containment and encircling of China in the Asia-Pacific region.In the context of intensified strategic competition between China and the United States and accelerated containment of China’s development by the United States,the appropriate use of "wedge strategy" may become one of the important strategies for China to weaken the American alliance system in the Asia-Pacific region and effectively resolve the security challenges from the United States.This paper tries to analyze and draw lessons from the reasonable kernel of the "wedge strategy",which will provide enlightenment for China to cope with the challenges and pressures brought by the US-Asia-Pacific alliance system. |
