Research On Military And Security Relations Between South Korea And Japan

In recent years,in response to China's rise,the North Korean nuclear issue,Russia's Resurgence and other factors,the United States has been committed to integrating the strength of South Korea and Japan,the two military allies in the Asia-Pacific region.The United States even proposed to build a trilateral military alliance with South Korea and Japan.Given the importance of the military and security interaction between South Korea and Japan in the U.S.East Asia strategy,especially the impact on China's national security and strategic interests,this paper conducts a study on this topic.This paper is divided into three parts.The first part conducts a chronological review of the origin and development of military security relations between South Korea and Japan.Based on different features in different time periods,the author divides the military security relations between South Korea and Japan into five phases: stage of indirect contact,stage of germination infancy,stage of setbacks,rapid heating stage and stage of bumpy development.This paper describes the development of military security exchanges and cooperation between South Korea and Japan in detail from the normalization of diplomatic ties in 1965.The second part analyzes the main factors influencing the development of military security relationship between South Korea and Japan.Among them,the push from the U.S.and the DPRK nuclear issue are the main driving factors,while the hindering factors come from inside the ROK and Japan.The third part contains three sections of contents.Firstly,after fully considering various possibilities,this paper predicts that the military and security relationship between South Korea and Japan will maintain the status quo for a certain period of time without going further.Secondly,it comprehensively analyzes the influence of the military and security relations between the ROK and Japan,that is,it leads to the formation of "security dilemma" in northeast Asia.It is also a "double-edged sword" for the ROK and Japan,and affects China's surrounding diplomatic environment and even damages China's security interests.Finally,with regard to China-Japan-ROK,China-America,China-Russia,China-DPRK,and China itself,this paper puts forward several feasible measures for China to deal with the military and security relations between the ROK and Japan.
