A Study Of The Debate Between Miller And Cohen On Market Socialism

Market socialism is an important social ideological trend in the development of world socialist movement.Since the 1990 s,it has not disappeared because of the low point of the world socialist movement,but has become a major theoretical issue discussed by western scholars.David Miller,as an advocate of market socialism,believed that market socialism was the best choice to realize the pursuit of socialist value and a feasible alternative to capitalism and Soviet socialism.The representative of analytical Marxist School,G.A.Cohen,held different views.He believed that although market socialism was an important way to achieve the value goal of socialism,the high efficiency of the market and the motivation of greed and fear are still not conducive to the realization of distributive justice and community value.This paper traces back to the debate between miller and Cohen onmarket socialism,and takes it as the topic,sorts out and studies the formation and content,points out the enlightenment and reference of the debate.The first chapter introduces the academic careers of Miller and Cohen,and expounds the evolution and development process of their thoughts and theories.The second chapter analyzes the historical background,social background and ideological background of Miller and Cohen on market socialism debate,and expounds the three stages of the debate and their ideological exchanges.The third chapter studies the content of the debate,and analyzes and discusses the core issues of the dispute between distributive justice and community.Chapter four evaluates the debate between miller and Cohen on market socialism,and points out that their debates not only provide useful enlightenment for us to correctly understand the relationship between socialism and market economy,adhere to fairness and justice under the socialist market economy,and seek the balance between community value and individual freedom,but also have important reference value to perfect the socialist market economy system with Chinese characteristics,build a distribution system centered on justice,and promote social governance of the community construction.
