David Miller is a contemporary British political philosopher and left-wing scholar. He works as a professor in Oxford University and is one of the representatives of contemporary theory on socialist market economy. His works cover such fields as political philosophy and socialist theories. The author was convinced that starting from researches on human social relationship,Miller studied the three principles on social justice,in an attempt to find theoretical support in political philosophy for his "cooperative" theory. In his"cooperative socialist market economy" theory,Miller justified the existence of market from the aspect of moral rules;starting from principles of social justice,Miller proved the compatibility of market economy and socialism values, and so established his "socialist theory of justice" which claims that socialism can be developed and socialism values can be practiced with the functioning of market under the precondition of social justice. From the establishment of social justice principles to the theory on socialist market economy,Miller's socialist theory of justice reflects his consistency in theoretical logic in the development of his thoughts, that is to explain and guide practice with normative researches,so as to form a complete system of theories. With the disintegrate of Socialist Soviet Union,Miller believed that only by consistent exploring into socialist theories and practices, could socialism be reached in real sense,so that all kinds of social problems and conflicts could be solved. This thesis falls into six chapters. In chapter one,the concept of justice and socialist theory of justice are introduced, and Miller's socialist theory of justice is analyzed. In chapter two,the social background related to the foundation of Miller's socialist theory of justice is introduced, theoretical relations of Miller's theory with other theories are explained, and the approaches Miller adapted to establish his socialist theories are analyzed. It is concluded that Miller summed up the pattern of human social relations and then developed its corresponding three principles of social justice which is the basis of his social justice theory. In chapter three, the author explains and analyzes the content of Miller's socialist theory of justice in details, attaching importance to the concept that the pursuit of its basic value is to meet the procedural justice and the outcome of justice.Chapter four, for the first time, puts forward Miller's concept of socialist justice and interprets its connotation by combining Miller's theory of social justice with the theory of socialism. In chapter five, the choice of the path of reality in Miller's theory of socialist justice is discussed, that is,the construction of "cooperative socialist market economy" model. In chapter six,the author goes over the history of the development of socialist theories, analyzes and comments on Miller's socialist theory of justice from the perspective of Marxism and socialist market economy, and at last digs out the helpful enlightenment to the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
