Since Modi took power in 2014,Indian government increasingly expanded its en-gagement in the South China Sea with an intention of enhancing its presence and im-pacts in this area through politics,economy and military.India's role in the issue of the South China Sea is decided by its regional interests in politics,economy and security,because it wants to stand up as a big power so as to extend its maritime strategy,con-trol the sea,safeguard its economic interests and balance China in the region.The the-sis makes an overall analysis on indian policy to South China Sea and the impacts on China,and then puts forward countermeasures accordingly.Chapter1 analyzes the international disputes centering on the South China Sea since 21 st century after the Cold War,and the backdrop of India's rising and tranfor-mation from the land to the sea,as well as its overlapping maritime interests claim and increasing competition with China.Chapter 2 exemplifies 4 major goals pursued by Modi's policy to the South China Sea,including response to China's rising,containing PLA navy's footstep in the India Ocean,grabing energy resources,and displayig its power and status.It also summarizes the contents and implementation of the policy,which lays the foundation for Chapter 3 to make a deep insight of its nature and char-acteristics,after that,the thesis tries to envision the potential tendency of the Modi's policy to the South China Sea.Chapter 4 discusses its influence to China and how to respond by chinese government,the author tries to raise corresponding countermeas-ures under it.
