In May 2014,Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party won the Indian general election by a landslide, forming the Bharatiya Janata Party government headed by Modi.Modi, who is famous for being a strong man,has attracted widespread attention from the outside world since his domestic and foreign policies were formed, and his foreign policy, especially his China policy, has become the focus of attention.By 2021,the Modi government has been in power for nearly seven years.Over the past seven years, the Modi government's China policy has gradually slipped from the policy of engagement with China in the early days of its administration to the "problem diplomacy" toward China in the middle of its administration, and from "problem diplomacy" to a tough foreign policy toward China. On the basis of inheriting the previous foreign policy of the Indian government, there have also been some new changes in the foreign policy of the Modi government. The specific changes are as follows: the conservatism of foreign policy has been significantly enhanced;India's traditional diplomatic tradition of "non-alignment" has been diluted;the characteristics of "balanced diplomacy" have become increasingly obvious;the speculative and adventurous policy toward China has become more and more adventurous. The rather speculative China policy of the Modi government and the military adventures against China in the border areas between China and India have not only destroyed the fragile trust mechanism between China and India, but also intensified the regional strategic competition between China and India. Moreover,it has greatly enhanced the risk of military confrontation and even armed conflict between China and India, casting a heavy shadow on the development of normal bilateral relations between China and India. The above-mentioned China policy of the Modi government has somewhat increased China's strategic pressure on the southwest border and hindered the smooth implementation of China's "Belt and Road Initiative" initiative. In this regard, the Chinese government should objectively understand the new changes in India's policy toward China, while continuing to develop relations with India, accurately locate India's position in China's foreign strategy, and guard against possible political and military adventures by India.
