Study On Sino-India Relations Since Modi Took Office

Since the Modi government took office,India has adopted the strategy of issue by issue diplomacy towards China.Issue by issue diplomacy means that the Indian government breaks down Sino-India relations into specific issues with which it constantly makes demands or directly deals with China.This strategy stems from the structural nature of the asymmetric attention between China and India,with India paying more attention to China than China does to India.Issue by issue diplomacy complicates Sino-India relations and makes it difficult for the two sides to reach consensus.The complexity of Sino-India relations is mainly reflected in the following three aspects: at the international,regional and bilateral levels,china-India relations may form four relations states of conflict,competition,coordination and cooperation around different topics.In international affairs,China and India have conflicts on the status of the United Nations,the US-Japan-India-Australia quadrilateral regime,and competition on the status of the nuclear suppliers group and the international financial system.China and India have coordinated positions in the BRICS regime and worked together to tackle global climate change.At the regional level,China and India have conflicts on the Pakistan issue,compete in south and southeast Asia,coordinate positions on the Indian Ocean order and the African order,and work together to tackle regional terrorist threat.In bilateral relations,China and India have clashed over border issue and Tibet issue,competed over defense technology,coordinated trade and investment,and cooperated on renewable energy and culture.When the structural characteristics of asymmetric attention between China and India are clarified,which leads to the Strategy of issue by issue diplomacy towards China adopted by The Modi government since it entered politics,and then leads to a variety of relations between the two sides at the international,regional and bilateral levels,we can find that the Sino-India relations are actually very complex.This fact requires us,on the basis of understanding the overall characteristics of Sino-India relations,to take concrete actions according to the nature of different issues at different levels in response to the changes in Sino-India relations and to promote the overall evolution of bilateral relations towards cooperation as far as possible.In terms of academic meaning,this article refined the structural characteristic of Sino-Indian relations,Modi government to the embodiment of the issue by issue diplomacy strategy and characteristics,distinguish the analysis of the multiple dimensions of Sino-Indian relations and their relations,this analysis framework for people from various angles analysis specific bilateral relations between the great powers can provide some theoretical inspiration.
