Since the fourth World Conference on Women,the status of rural women has been promoted and improved in an unprecedented way.As an important part of the female group,rural women have also begun to receive corresponding attention.In a sense,the improvement and development of the current situation of rural women is directly related to the improvement and development of women in our country as a whole.As an important channel for people to understand information,as an important role in reporting the current social situation and guiding public opinion,mass media should shoulder the obligation of publicizing rural women to the society,and make corresponding contributions to promoting the development of rural women and gender equality.By using the method of content analysis,this study takes the rural female image report of China Women’s Daily from 1985 to 2019 as the research sample.Quantitative research and description are carried out from seven aspects: the number of reports,the genre of reports,the theme of reports,the pages of reports,the tendency of reports,the composition of characters and the characteristics of characters.By using the method of text analysis,this paper further analyzes the development and changes of the construction of rural female images in women’s newspapers,and tries to explore the factors that affect the construction of rural female images in women’s newspapers.The research shows that women’s newspapers pay more attention to rural women,and the reports always hold a positive attitude.The reports in different periods reflect the image characteristics and changes in different periods,from the reorganization of women’s economic roles under the rural economic system in the 1980 s to the construction of women’s social image centered on the construction of subjectivity in the 1990 s.Then to the new century,the diversification and complexity of roles reflect the corresponding relationship between the construction of rural female image and social background.In addition,with regard to the thoughts and suggestions on theconstruction of rural female images in women’s newspapers,the study holds that the content of reports should be further enriched by strengthening the empowerment of the media,strengthening the flattening and refinement of reports and improving the gender awareness of media personnel.
