A Study On The Construction And Presentation Of Media Images Of Female Cadres

China’s female cadre is growing under the high priority of the government and the implementation of the relevant documents,and women are increasingly present in the political arena.With the positive development of the female cadre,the mainstream media has increasingly made female cadres an important topic of coverage.As the official and influential women’s newspaper in China,the presentation of the image of Chinese female cadres in its coverage profoundly affects people’s perceptions and impressions of female cadres on the one hand,and their perceptions of themselves on the other.In this context,it is of profound theoretical and practical significance to explore the presentation of the image of female cadres.Based on the three-level framework theory,from the multiple dimensions of political science,communication science and gender studies,and with the help of python tools,using textual analysis and content analysis,this paper selects a sample of reports on Chinese female cadres in the five years from 2017 to 2022 since the 19 th National Congress in China Women’s Daily to investigate the following three questions:1.How does China Women’s Daily report on female?2.what kind of image of female cadres does China Women’s Daily construct? 3.are there certain problems in the construction of the image of China Women’s Daily and how can it be improved?The research starts from the content of female cadres’ reports and the basic situation of female cadres.The content of reports starts from report genres,report pages,news headlines,the number of reports and key words,while the basic situation of female cadres is analysed around the position level,age group,education level,region of employment and image presentation.Then,From a three-level framework perspective,China Women’s Daily mainly adopts a highly positive thematic framework,a schematic structural framework and a factual and emotional expression framework.This framework is reflected in the following points: the news topics are focused on social and livelihood issues,and the tone of the reports is strongly positive;the sources are mostly government documents and self-picked by the newspaper,and the structure of the reports emphasizes facts and weak attribution and evaluation;the discourse style is balanced between lifelike language and objective news facts.This study concludes that from the perspective of cadre assessment and gender roles,China Women’s Daily has successfully built up an image of high-quality female cadres with comprehensive development of " integrity,morality,performance,ability and diligence",while high-level female cadres have de-gendered and de-role characteristics,while grassroots cadres will build up a richer and three-dimensional image of female gender characteristics.The cadres have a richer and more threedimensional image of female gender at the grassroots level.Finally,this paper proposes corresponding countermeasures in the face of three problems: the solidification of female cadres’ reporting mode in China Women’s Daily,the homogenization and completion of female cadres’ image,and the fact that they are still confined to the traditional gender context.
