Socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era,and changes in the main social contradictions have brought new challenges to public security work, requiring the strengthening of the relationship between the police and the public to meet the needs of the development of the times. This article takes the police-civilian relationship as the research object, from the perspective of social exchange theory, analyzes the structure and characteristics of the police-civilian relationship through the literature analysis method, comparative method and case study method, and digs out the problems and deep-seated causes of the police-civilian relationship. On this basis, the feasible ways to build an ideal relationship between the police and the people in a new era of mutually beneficial cooperation, harmony and stability are discussed. The full text is divided into four chapters, following the logical thinking of "defining the theoretical perspective"-"clear internal structure and characteristics"-"analyzing existing problems and causes"-"realizing path exploration".The first chapter is introduction. The second chapter puts forward the exchange structure and exchange model of the police-civilian relationship research on the basis of combing the main points of the social exchange theory, and establishes the theoretical basis and research perspective of this study. From the theoretical perspective, the third chapter analyzes the structure and characteristics of the ideal police-civilian relationship by using the exchange structure and exchange model, and provides a basis and reference for digging and revealing the problems and causes of the police-civilian relationship.Chapter 4 discusses the conflicts and dilemmas existing in the police-civilian interaction practice in combination with the actual situation.Taking the ideal police-civilian relationship as a reference, the social exchange theory is used to reveal the nature and deeper causes of the problem.Chapter 5 discusses the feasible ways to build ideal police-civilian relations based on reality. The study found that social attraction is the motivation for the police-civilian relationship, and the desire for social compensation is the source of motivation for the police-civilian interaction, while the strong peer-to-peer police-civilian relationship is the most stable structural form;legitimacy and limitation are the police Based on rationality, reciprocity is a necessary condition for the continuous development of police-civilian interaction, while conventional cooperation is the optimal model for police-civilian relations. At present, there are structuraldilemmas caused by factors such as irrational factors, lack of relevant laws and regulations, unequal status of the police, and conflicts in the choice between the police and the citizens. It is necessary to promote the development of police-civilian relations towards the ideal state of reciprocal cooperation, harmony and stability by cultivating the common values of police and civilians, cultivating police rationality, establishing reciprocal mechanisms and establishing police authority.Guided by the social exchange theory, this article reveals the interaction mechanism and structural characteristics of the relationship between police and citizens from a new perspective, and provides new ideas and methods for analyzing the contradictions and conflicts between police and citizens and exploring solutions and paths.
