On The Construction Of Asean Security Mechanism In The New Century

In August 1967,Indonesia,Malaysia,the Philippines,Singapore and Thailand signed the Bangkok Declaration in Bangkok,and ASEAN set out.In 1976,the ASEAN countries signed the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia,which clearly stipulated the guidelines and purposes for cooperation between the parties.Subsequently,a series of agreements and declarations were gradually signed,which played an inexorable role for ASEAN regional security cooperation for more than 50 years.In the new century,a series of security mechanisms such as the ASEAN Security Community,the ASEAN Summit,and the ASEAN Regional Forum have emerged in response to the international situation,regional situation,and internal development needs of ASEAN.Changes in regional integration,major power strategies,and ASEAN's own strength have become important thrusts for the development of ASEAN's security mechanisms.Multilateralism and the adjustment of ASEAN's security concerns have promoted the authority and binding of ASEAN organizations.From marginalization to centralization.In this development process,the ASEAN security mechanism has gradually played a role in consolidating regional power,restricting regional behavior,regulating regional order,and balancing relations among countries in the Asia-Pacific region.The limitations of the ASEAN organization still exist.ASEAN concepts such as the "ASEAN approach" and "ASEAN as the center" are deeply ingrained.The method of ASEAN security mechanism construction needs to seek breakthroughs in the process of inheriting and innovating the ASEAN spirit.
