The Republic of China era is a special period between the late Qing Dynasty and the New China.During this time,education reformed one after another as social unrest,following the emergence of a variety of education ideology and educational systems.Educators did a lot of efforts to require the independence of education and education should be a fundamental requirement for social development.Mathematics textbooks reflected the state of politics and Ci,vic ideals as a carrier of knowledge and thoughts in mathematics classroom.Thus,the mathematics textbooks of the Republic of China have always been a hot object in education research.However,most of the researchers focuses on the trait of the presentation of mathematics textbooks by comparing the different versions of different countries and the different presentation of the textbooks.They were not keen on the presentation of elementary school mathematics textbooks.Therefore,it’s necessary to study the presentation of mathematics textbooks in primary school.Six typical primary school mathematics textbooks of the Republic of China were selected as objects in this study.We focus on the modes of presentation and the cultural connotation in the presentation.First of all,sorting out their presentation styles through access to these six sets of textbooks;Secondly,doing a full range of analysis of textbook content presentation through researching on helping reading and assistant teaching system,examples and exercises system together with the knowledge system of four areas which are known as number and algebra,graphics and geometry,probability and statistics as well as comprehensive practice;thirdly,to do a comprehensive analysis of presentation style and way of content presentation so as to sort out the characteristics of the development and changes in the way of presentation;finally,through the analysis of the presentation mode of the mathematics textbooks in primary school in the Republic of China to sum up the culture connotation as follows:In terms of education thoughts,the presentation reflects the thought of educational system,the New Culture Movement and the thought of educational independence,the combination of Western thoughts and Eastern thoughts,at the same time.The presentation affected by education thoughts,especially in mode of content presenting,reflecting the education situation of the society.Promoting the presentation correspond to the rule of physical and mental development of children and characteristics of cognition.In this way,students can grasp mathematical knowledge,and apply their knowledge.In mathematics culture,presentation contains the beauty of mathematics,mathematical symbols,culture and mathematics awareness.The mathematical culture was infiltrated into mathematical contents through the mode of presenting.Mathematics culture was imperceptibly cultivated while studying mathematical knowledge.In terms of mathematical ideology,presentation permeated with symbolic-graphic combination ideology,classification ideology,modeling ideology and transformation ideology.It’s especially featured on the mode of presenting.Therefore,this article is divided into six parts:The first part introduces the reason,background,questions and significance of the research.Defining the concept of "primary","textbook","arithmetic" "textbook presentation".The second part reviews the presentation of primary school mathematics textbooks.The third part studies the presentation of framework and system of six sets of mathematics textbooks and analyzing the development and variation of presentation system.The fourth part studies the presentation of elementary school mathematics textbooks,analyzing the development of knowledge systems,reading systems,auxiliary reading systems and exercises system respectively.The fifth part analyzes the features of presentation of primary school mathematics textbooks in Republic of China,indicating the significance to presentation of modern elementary school mathematics textbooks.The sixth part is the summary of the enlightenment to today’s mathematics educati on of presentation of mathematics textbook in primary school of Republic of China.And make a explanation of conclusion and their enlightenmen respectively.
