Research On The Sustainable Development Of Competitive Sport In Chinese Universities

Since the 1990's,competitive sport has been developing rapidly in China,and its level has been improving steadily;although some of the events have reached or got close to the domestic first-class level,there are also many problems,with the overall level being low,thus making it difficult to compete for gold or silver medals in the world stage.In recent years in China's universities endowed with important tasks to cultivate high level athletes,competitive sport development has encountered difficulties due to trouble with sport and cultural education integration,and lack of high-level sport students.By combing previous experts' and scholars' research achievements,guided by the scientific outlook on development,an analysis is made,from the perspective of education and sociology,of the historical responsibility of college competitive sport,to redefine the position of competitive sport in the higher education system,and introduce the advanced ideas of American college competitive sport development for the purpose of carrying out innovation and finding countermeasures in the course of reforming and developing competitive sport theory in China's universities.After revisiting nearly 30 years of competitive sport development in China,comparing the layout of university competitive sport events and the list of major competitive events in China,evaluating the comprehensive strength of the competitive sport in China,analyzing the factors restricting the sustainable development of university competitive sport in our country,and drawing on the successful experience of development of competitive sport in American universities,this thesis puts forward some suggestions on the reform and development of competitive sport in Chinese universities.Through on-the-spot investigation,and visiting some of the Chinese universities and university student sports associations,the author tries to understand the status quo of high level sports teams and the development of university competitive sports.By meetingwith college sports training experts,coaches and officials of Chinese college students' sports association,interviews are carried out on special topics.By means of document literature method,policies,regulations and documents are collected from the State Council,the Ministry of Education,General Administration of Sports,Chinese College Students Sports Association,etc.In China's Academic Journal Network Publishing Pool,Wangfang and Weipu databases,relevant literature has been consulted and analyzed.Comparative research method is adopted to study the concept of developing university competitive sport between China and the United States,and the characteristics of their athlete learning,training and competition management.The results indicate that the current university management system of competitive sports in China,to a great extent,restricts the development of competitive sports in colleges and universities.Relevant policies and regulations of competitive sports development are obviously lagging behind.Its development is in an extensive form in that the management of college students' sports association do not function well,and high level athletes do not have easy access to universities;the coaches of most universalities are not professional enough either in teaching and performance;the fees for training and competitive are far from enough;and the conflict between college students' study and training is serious.Research findings show that the university competitive sports management system must be reformed in our country;it is suggested that a management mode by means of an independent legal entity like the American NCAA management mode be introduced to China's competitive sports management mechanism in colleges and universities;university sports competition should be included in national sports competition for unified management of sport events and delegations;the separation between China's higher education and competitive sport education must be reversed.Some universities should establish high level sports training centers,so that physical education can return to education,and the recruitment of sport students and the conflict between study and training can be solved.A multi-mode of university competitive sport personnel cultivation should be established,with universities as leaders and the sports system and large enterprises resources as the supporters.
