Macun:The Daily Life And Ethical Value Of A Rural Church

The dissertation aims to understand Catholics' daily life and ethical value by my fieldwork of a rural Catholic church.The Catholics who acquire no meaning and value in their trivial everyday life could make quotidian experience apprehensible as long as they accept a religion-ordered system.The order is so significant that religious value always be marked in important events,of which individuals or collectives may engrave on their minds.The time concept of Catholicism that anchors in people's hearts is also produced by the religious idea and practice,and it never be neutral.Time that systematically categorized in religious institution has been closely intertwined with cultural system,and it could be applied to the daily practice only because it has already reasonably invented in religious order.However,in religious practice,Catholicism will inevitably come to conflict with folk religion.The discourse of Christianity that divides the sacredness from evil may help to imagine the otherness in terms of cramming others into the evil category.But it may also help to preserve others' knowledge.In fact,people's identity with the Catholic core value means they willfully obey the religious morality and fashion their subjectivity according to the Christian ethics.Morality contains not mere codes of behaviors,but also the forms of subjectivation in terms of Foucault's interpretation,and except the moral concept,a set of religious institution is also required.With the observation of the relationship between aberrant men with prescribed Catholic ethic,we can find how the normal ones relate themselves to the morality in their action of following disciplines.And in this process,one forms his self and affirms the meaning of his life.
