The Causal Model And Social Mechanism Of Child Poverty

The diversity of different social groups is a major topic needing attention to implement precise poverty alleviation strategy.Children are a special group,and the concept of child poverty can't be generalized with the general concept of poverty.In addition,the social mechanism of child poverty is special.Based on Amartya Sen's multidimensional poverty thought,reference multiple overlapping deprivation analysis method on selection of multidimensional poverty index and judging principle of deprivation,integrated various multidimensional poverty measurement system at present and the actual situation of the poor in China,this paper selects 11 directors of five dimensions,including education,health,nutrition,information and child protection,which are the most direct reflection of the situation of children,to measure child poverty.After controlling the influence of economic factors,this paper analyzes the influence of social and cultural factors such as community education,parents' accompany status,parents'educational level,diet idea on child poverty through constructing the casual model of OLS regression on the basis of the sampling data of 8 poverty-stricken counties in four contiguous poor areas in Hubei province.Compared with general poverty problem,child poverty presents obvious specificity.In details:Child poverty is associated with the poverty of families.The average expenditure of living consumption of family member has a significant negative impact on child poverty,but the average expenditure and debt of family member have no significant effect on child poverty.However,the bigger concern is,after controlling the influence of economic factors,the influence of some social and cultural factors,including community education,parents' accompany status,parents' educational level and diet idea.On community education,the skill training and the propaganda and education of protection for family members by the community have significant negative effect on child poverty.Providing the propaganda and education of health for children,the newspapers and magazines,the children-oriented activities and volunteer services is closely related to child poverty.Children' boarding may also affect child poverty.On parents' accompany status,whether parents care at ordinary times has no significant effect on child poverty,but whether parents are migrant workers in the long term has significant effects on child poverty.On parents' educational level,father's and mother's educational level both have no significant effect on child poverty,but child caregiver's educational level has a significant negative effect on child poverty.On diet idea,having three meals a day has no significant effect on child poverty,but having a healthy diet has a significant effect on child poverty.The study found,the social mechanism of child poverty is social and cultural factors,including community education,parents' accompany status,parents' educational level and diet idea.But in essence,the social mechanism of child poverty is social stratification and social identity.Building a community child care and service system to make up for the lack of accompany and scientific parenting knowledge caused by parents who go out as migrant workers,perfecting the function of community education,increasing significant effects of the healthy diet idea on child poverty are effective approaches of precise intervention in child poverty problem under the Background of Urbanization.
