With the continuous development of urbanization and the increasing demands for natural resources, the food security in China has been greatly affected. Therefore, based on the previous studies and the panel data of 31 provinces and cities of China,I made a further empirical analysis on the relationship between urbanization and food security in China from 1997 to 2015.The results showed that from the national perspective, the development of urbanization in China had a negative impact on food security; From the perspective of local areas, the development of the population urbanization in I,II and III regions in China produced negative influence with different degrees on food security, and the negative influence in I area showed stronger, especially in Shanghai and Beijing. The impact on food security in provinces in II and III areas was generally lower than the ones in I area. The overall urbanization process of IV area whose level of urbanization was lower improved the level of food security, but in this district there were also other provinces whose population urbanization on food security showed negative effects. The above-mentioned results told us the future development of urbanization in our country should not make unified planning, but should make specific layout adapting to the regional development according to whose actual conditions to make full use of the positive effects which released in the process of population urbanization, and at the same time deal with the negative effects especially the adverse impact on China's food security, which requires us to make a sustainable population urbanization plan to ensure grain security.
