The concept of the Japanese general education is part of the general theme of general education.Because its development has undergone two major changes,its content has also undergone changes.From the beginning of World War ?,it has turned from elite education to education for the general citizen.The Japanese general education is the new subject of education after World War ?.However,both two general educations are forms of general education in Japan.Japanese general education was born in the period of the Meiji Restoration.The Japanese general education thoughts were very different before the World War ? and after the war,they experienced two major reforms.In particular,every education before war is the elite education,and the school has the cultivation of students'cultural quality,natural science and body quality.After the war,the post-war education is oriented to the ordinary people.Both the society and the schools attach great importance to the education and hope to cultivate the talents to meet the needs of the society and arrange a two-year education course.At present,there are two very distinctive general education in Japan.One is the education which has been carried out by the University of Tokyo since the Second World War.One is the education which is designed by Waseda University to cultivate the talents with international vision.The two kinds of education have different emphasis on the way of training students,showing the diverse understanding of the concept of education and education in Japanese educational circles.Since the birth of general education,it has its clear purpose.Before the World War ?,the purpose of general education was training students to serve the country and government.Therefore,it has the characteristics of bureaucracy.At the same time,the education in Japan was copied from various countries before the war,so it has the characteristics of confusion in school management.These reforms have led to a confusion in the development of Japanese education.Therefore,after a long period of post-war education,the characteristics of general education have no clear concept or complete system.In retrospect of the course of the development of Japanese general education,we should give lessons,and the Chinese Universities can draw all kinds of conclusions and Revelations from it.These conclusions and enlightenment should be of great benefit to the construction of a double class university and the development of general education in China.
