| Mr Ye Shengtao had stated clearly: "what is the education,in a word,is a process to obtain a good habit." The stage of primary school is undoubtedly the most critical period to cultivate children’s habits.Good habits have a great effect on one’s will,character,and even ability,especially the extracurricular reading habit.Good habits of reading will benefit for children throughout their whole lives.On the basis of previous studies,5 primary schools in Changsha cityare selected as examples for this study.Questionnaire and intervieware used to investigate the status of extracurricular reading.There are five dimensions to the research,such aspsychological state and motivation of students’ reading,time of extracurricular reading and reading quantity,the content of the extracurricular reading,the willing of extracurricular reading,themethod of extracurricular reading and the environment of extracurricular reading.It is concluded that there are some problems in extracurricular reading habitsof elementary student.Such as lacking of habit of reading actively,no strong interesting of extracurricular reading,no enough time of extracurricular reading,the contrary to the requirement of the new curriculum standard,simple tasted and limited scope of reading,lacking of effect motivation and weak will of extracurricular reading.Thereare bad methods for extracurricular reading.They do not know how to read a book scientifically and effectively.Good reading habits have not yet been cultivated.According to the status quo of extracurricular reading habits,in-depth interviews with individual teachers and students was conducted to analysis the cause from the children themselves,parents,teachers,schools,society and evaluation aspects,it found that the primary school students are not interested in extra-curricular reading due to the limitations of their physical and mental development.At the same time,students have not formed a good independent reading ability because of pay not enough attention to extracurricular reading and lack good reading habits withineffective guidance of parents,the insufficient professional quality,the not timely guidance and evaluation and the not ideal guidance effect of teacher on reading instruction as well as the imperfect software and hardware conditions of school.According to the above results,in order to improve the present situation of the elementary student’s extracurricular reading habits,first,we should dependon the understanding of extracurricular reading.Second,we should create an integrated reading atmosphere with "family,school,society" in Changsha city,which creates the environment of reading and enhance the cultivation of extracurricular reading habit.Third,the level of tutor’s reading should be strengthened.Tutors can give the effect method for students,improve the quality of reading and consolidate the habit of extracurricular reading.At last,the evaluation system of reading should be constructed to evaluate the process of operation extracurricular reading habit and obtain feedback.The aim is to strengthen the habit of extracurricular reading. |
