The idea of “one adapts to oneself” emerged during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States. It is part of Chuang Tzu's philosophy of life.It appears three times in Chuang Tzu and proposed by criticizing the phenomena of running for fame, profit and do not cherish life.He opposed life being controlled by other things. The so-called “one adapts to oneself” refers to that one give play to subjectivity to get better result which more suitable for himself. The idea of “one adapts to oneself” emphasized awaking, emancipation of subjectivity and surpass it.It also refers to that one get the suitable achievement for oneself.Seeing oneself and knowing oneself is the base of “one adapts to oneself”.It impels the awaking and emancipation of subjectivity. It promotes one knowing more about himself and build one's personality.Understanding oneself and meeting oneself is the requirements and method of “one adapts to oneself”.It advocates pluralism of individuality and human nature to surpass one's subjectivity. The harmonious development of inside and outside and enhancing spirituality promotes one adapts to himself. The idea of “one adapts to oneself”contains rich educational value. But it is rarely mentioned in the past research. This paper explore the educational value of the idea“one adapts to oneself” from educational goals, knowledge view, education principles, teaching methods and learning methods.Generally speaking, the meaning of the idea of “one adapts to oneself” is the process of learners taking initiative to reduce the division form their starting point to ideal result of study and choose the knowledge accord to his ability and interest to achieve one's intrinsic value of life.Specifically speaking, the goal of the idea of “one adapts to oneself” is to realize the intrinsic value of life.On the view of knowledge, the idea of “one adapts to oneself” refers to treat knowledge dialectically. On the educational principle, the idea of “one adapts to oneself”refer to let nature take its course. On the educational methods, the idea of “one adapts to oneself”refers to teach without saying. On the learning methods, the idea of “one adapts to oneself”refers to get knowledge by firsthand experience.Although, the idea of “one adapts to oneself”overemphasize the individual function of education and ignore the social function of education,it still has important implications for today's education.First, education should respect and motivate the subjectivity of learners.Second, education should be adapted to the individual's educational needs.Third,we use the method of “teaching with words”,“teaching without words”and “learning by firsthand experience” to let learners get achievement on studies.Fourthly, the idea of “one adapts to oneself” provides a spiritual orientation for today's curriculum reform.Fifthly, when we use the idea of “one adapts to oneself”,we should consider the rigid scale and elastic scale of education and balance it from human and society.
