The comparative study of teaching materials at home and abroad is an important research perspective for the study of literature textbooks,providing inspiration for the compiling and using of them.As a basic element of literature teaching materials,the reading-supporting system is essential for understanding the compiling concept and purpose of the editors,helping Chinese teachers to determine teaching objectives and teaching contents.This paper focuses on the comparative study of Chinese and American literature textbooks in senior high schools.It compares the two reading-supporting systems to explore the similarities and differences of compiling concepts,compiling styles and teaching contents,so that we can keep the advantages of the compilation of Chinese literature textbooks and learn from the American literature textbooks.Textbooks used for this comparative study are Experimental Literature Textbook of General High School Curriculum Standards(Compulsory)published by People's Education Press and American Literature—Featured Articles of Literature Textbooks of Famous American High Schools published by China Women Publishing House.The paper consists of 5 parts.In chapter one,the author explains the research background,significance,key words,literature review,research objects and methods.In chapter two,the author explores the characteristics of the two sets of textbooks from macro-perspective through analyzing the different main contents and the reading-supporting systems.In chapter three,the author analyzes the causes for the differences of the two sets of reading-supporting systems through overall comparison and comparison of the details of the two sets of literature textbooks,in the light of the national conditions and the development of education of the two countries.In chapter four,the author draws lessons from American literature textbooks and puts forward some feasible suggestions for the compiling and using of Chinese literature textbooks.In the conclusion part,the author makes a summary of the research,and puts forward the expectation for the follow-up study of the subject.
