The Relationship Between Self-esteem And Aggressive Behavior Of Secondary Vocational Students: The Mediating Role Of Self-enhancement

In recent years,adolescents' aggressive behaviors have repeatedly occurred on campus,which are increasingly valued by the society.Aggressive behavior is an act of an individual who intentionally inflicts harm on others in an emotional state accompanied by anger,hostility,and modes like these.The study shows that offensive behavior from different perspectives and found that individuals' aggressive behavior is affected by self-esteem.Self-enhancement refers to people's self-recognition and social comparison to give themselves a more positive evaluation of self-esteem.Therefore,self-enhancement,as an important variety,will also have an impact on aggressive behavior.This study compares the status of offensive behavior,self-esteem,and self-enhancement in secondary vocational students and ordinary high school students through a comparative study of secondary vocational students and ordinary high school students.Also did further study of the relationship between aggressive behavior,self-esteem,and self-enhancement.Through a stratified sampling,Chen Biyun(2003)self-enhancement questionnaire was administered to 309 secondary vocational students and 349 ordinary high school students to measure better than the average effect and unrealistically optimistic and measured by Buss and Perry's prepared attack questionnaire.The revised version(AQ-CV)measures self-esteem by measuring offensive behavior,measuring the self-esteem scale(SES)adapted by Rosenberg and Wang Mengcheng(2010).The data was analyzed by SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 21.0,mainly using the methods of independent sample t-test,multivariate analysis of variance,and Pearson's correlation analysis,Bootstrap,and other statistical methods.The result shows that:1)The overall aggressiveness of secondary vocational students and ordinary high school students is at a medium level.The scores of male students in physical attack are significantly higher than female students among secondary vocational students,and the score of male students on the total score of offensive behavior is significantly higher than that of female students.The interactions of the terms of total score of attack,verbal aggressiveness,and self-aggression,the gender,source area,and schools' located cities are significant;Ordinary high school male students score significantly higher on physical attacks than female students,and girls score much higher on anger than boys.In terms of verbal aggressiveness,boys score significantly higher margins than girls.Secondary vocational students are significantly higher on the physical attack than ordinary high school students.2)The overall self-esteem scores of secondary vocational students and senior high school students are generally low.The scores of self-esteem of secondary vocational students are significantly higher than those of ordinary high school students.3)There is widespread self-enhancement among the students of secondary vocational students and ordinary high school students.The average score of male students in secondary vocational students is higher than that of female students.The scores of students in the provincial capital cities are significantly higher than those in ordinary prefecture-level cities.There are obvious interactions among gender,the place of origin,and the city where the school is located in the expressions of unrealistically optimistic.The ordinary senior high school students also show that boys score much higher than girls.In terms of better-than-average performance,the scores of secondary vocational students are significantly lower than those of ordinary senior high school students.4)Among the secondary vocational students,there is a significant negative correlation among the superior-average effect and the total score of aggressive behavior,hostility,self-aggression,and self-esteem;There is also a significant negative correlation among unrealistically optimistic and aggressive behavior scores,physical aggression,hostility,verbal aggressiveness,self-aggression and self-esteem.All dimensions of aggressive behavior(physical offense,anger,hostility,verbal aggressiveness,and self-aggression)are all positively correlated with self-esteem;In ordinary high school students,it is found that there is a significant negative correlation between self-enhancement(better than average effect,unrealistic optimism)and all dimensions of aggressive behavior(physical offense,anger,hostility,verbal aggressiveness,pointing to self-aggression);There is a significant positive correlation among offensive behavior total score,physical offensiveness,anger,hostility,and pointing towards self-esteem and self-esteem.5)Self-enhancement(better than average effect,unrealistic optimism)plays a chain mediation between offensive behavior and self-esteem,and better-than-average effects lead to unrealistic optimism.
