China entered the ageing population society in 1999 and it is one of the developing countries that entered the ageing population earlier. At present,China is the country with the oldest population in the world. With the rapid development of the economy and the continuous improvement of medical and living standards, the life expectancy of the Chinese population has increased year by year, and the problem of the ageing of the population in the future will become more severe. The three northeastern provinces and the Yangtze River Delta region are the areas with the largest number of elderly people in China and the most serious problem of population ageing. The growing ageing of the population not only hinders social and economic development in the three northeastern provinces and the Yangtze River Delta, but also poses a severe challenge to the social pension system in both regions. Therefore,it is imperative to thoroughly study the problems of population ageing in the three provinces of Northeast China and the Yangtze River Delta. This paper introduces the regional, holistic, and differential aspects of geography into the study of population ageing. From the perspective of time and space, based on the statistical data of the fifth and sixth population census, the three provinces of Northeast China and the Yangtze River Delta are analyzed. The spatial and temporal characteristics of population ageing in the region. The paper uses ArcGIS software and other tools to analyze the spatial characteristics of population ageing and realize the visualization of population ageing indicators such as the coefficient of the elderly population, population age-to-age ratio,old-age dependency ratio, population density of the elderly population, and more clearly and clearly reflect the three northeastern provinces and the Yangtze River Delta region.Differences in the spatial distribution of the elderly population.Based on the data of the sixth census in 2010,the paper selected 11 indicators to analyze the degree of grey correlation to obtain the correlation between the indicators and population ageing, and then analyzed the spatial differences of population ageing in the three provinces of Northeast China and the Yangtze River Delta.Influencing factors, and the impact of various influencing factors in the two regions on the ageing of the population. In this process,a Pearson correlation analysis was conducted specifically for this important indicator of social and economic factors to verify the correlation between socio-economic factors and population ageing. Finally,it proposes countermeasures and suggestions for the differences in population ageing in the three provinces of Northeast China and the Yangtze River Delta.
