State,Market And Village Community:A Study Of The Transitional Social Structure In A Village-weicun

In this paper,the study of weicun is centered on the social structure.The social structure refers tothe organizational principle that connects the internal components of the village community..The outline of the social structure presented in each period of the village is roughly sketched,and it is compared with the social structure experienced in the later period of the village,then analyzing how the changes occur.What kind of changes have taken place and the factors that affect their changes have been identified,as well as the main factors in these factors.In this way,it is possible to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the transitional social structure in weicun.Through the analysis of relevant literature and field survey data,this paper summarizes and discusses the three periods: First,in the traditional period,the main body of its governance practice was composed of chieftains and subordinates.They became the carrier of power and authority in the rural society,which enabled the traditional rural social's order to be maintained.Therefore,since the Qin and Han dynasties,the dynasty-state had only existed as a symbol in the weicun's society.The villagers of weicun have the same understanding of the dynasty as the villagers of hancun: “The heaven is high and the emperor is far away ”.Secondly,The emergence of the nation-state had broken the long-standing pattern that“imperial power is not reach a county” formed between traditional rural society and the state.Every individual in the village needs to face the state.The authority of the state went deep into everyone's daily life.At this time,the nation-state is “near at hand” for weicun.Thirdly,after 1980 s,weicun carried out its “traditional invention” based on the state's policies and market needs.In reality,the market is the most important leading force.In the contemporary society,economy has become the most important,and the market has become the dominant force.As Polanyi proposed in the “The Great Transformation”,the economy is no longer submerged in every corner of the whole society,On the contrary,the entire society needs to serve the development of the economy.
