As one of the major cities inhabited by Chinese and overseas Chinese living in northern Myanmar,Taunggyi,the capital of the Shan State of Myanmar,is developed in parallel with local Chinese,Burmese,and English.The use of Chinese by overseas Chinese is complex and bilingual.After two and a half years of internship in Taunggyi,the author makes a survey of students' ancestral home and language usage of three major Chinese schools in Taunggyi District,which includes Taunggyi Xinghua School,Taunggyi Donghua Language and Computer School and Taunggyi Ko Kang Cultural School.The results of this survey clearly show that the ancestral home of the students of the Chinese school in Taunggyi District of northern Myanma is mainly from Yunnan province,China,and their ancestral homes are concentrated in Tengchong and Longling areas.At the same time,the level of ancestral local dialects of those students is relatively high,and it is similar to the Chinese dialects used by residents of their ancestral homeland.This led to the use of Yunnan dialects of students of Taunggyi District,especially the use of the dialects of Tenglong in Yunnan,which had a profound impact on the learning of Mandarin by local Chinese students.Through questionnaires,targeted interviews,and access to relevant books and materials,the author conducted research on the following five aspects : 1.Background information on the use of ancestral homes and related languages by Chinese students in Taunggyi,the analysis includes the ancestral home,age distribution,ethnic distribution,etc.;2.Of the surveyed subjects,it investigated and analyzed the Chinese language use of local Chinese students,including that on different occasions and facing different objects,their use of different target languages;3.Based on the investigation and analysis of students' ancestral homeland,their background information on language use,and language use,they pay special attention to the use of Chinese;4.To investigate the relevant factors of the use of Chinese by students of the Chinese school in Taunggyi,The contents of the investigation are specific: students' Chinese learning,their proficiency in Chinese and their specific tutoring in Burmese,English,and Chinese;5.Contrast the pronunciation system of Chinese Tenglong dialect used by Chinesestudents in Taunggyi District with the Mandarin phonetic system,and grasp the advantages and disadvantages caused by the dialects used by students and the improvement of Mandarin,combined with the background of students' language use.The research and language use situation of the Chinese school proposed four suggestions for improving the level of Mandarin of students in Taunggyi District: 1.pay attention to the shortcomings in the tone and pronunciation of Mandarin that exist within the teacher group and actively improve it so as to better and correctly conduct Chinese teaching in the classroom.2.Give a full play to the superiority of Chinese Tenglong dialects used by students at local Chinese schools,and provide targeted guidance to local Chinese students in Mandarin learning.3.Strengthen the advantages of the Tenglong dialect phonetic system for Chinese schools students in Taunggyi District to learn Mandarin better.4.Targeting the disadvantages of students of learning Mandarin in the Tenglong dialect phonetic system.,we can practice specifically,which will weaken the negative impact of the Tenglong dialect system on students Mandarin learning in Taunggyi District.
