Public Religious Life And Rural Order

Tibetan believe in religions piously.Religions run through all aspects of their lives and are an important part of Tibetan culture.Their religious rituals,religious beliefs,religious taboos,and religious rituals are all closely linked to the construction and maintenance of rural order.As pointed out by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the National Conference on Religious Work,“Religious work is of special importance in the overall work of the Party and the country.It is related to the development of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics,the flesh-and-blood relationship between the Party and the people,and social harmony,National unity relates to national security and the unity of the motherland”.In the practice of rural governance,we must attach importance to the influence of religion,give full play to the positive functions of religion,and actively guide religion to adapt to socialist society.This paper takes the positive function of the public religious life in Benzilan Village of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and its functions in the construction of local village order as the main line,bases on field surveys and literature data,and uses anthropological methods such as document collection,participation observation,and in-depth interviews.In-depth research from the following points:First,investigating the public religious life in Benzilan Village.Its public religious life is rich and varied,including the Lasi Festival,reciting sutra,explaining sutra,turning the divine mountain,and worshiping the Buddha.This section investigates the place,time,participation,participation process,and the deep cultural implications behind public religious life.Second,exploring the function of public religious life in the construction and maintenance of rural order.Mainly from the perspective of positive function,discuss the important role that public religious life plays in Benzilan rural political order,economic order,cultural order,and ecological order.Third,analysis and reflection.On the one hand,as a microcosm of the pattern of“ethnic harmony,prosperity and stability” in Tibetan areas of Yunnan,the good rural order and governance in Benzilan Village can provide a reference for the government of Tibetan areas in Yunnan.The positive function of public religious life is not only the endogenous restraint mechanism of the countryside,but also the inherent strength of maintaining the rural order.On the other hand,the rural order does not exist independently.It is always embedded in the local social and cultural system.In the process of the construction and maintenance of the rural order,it should be transformed from dominated by the government into the governance embedded in the local social and cultural system,for minority villages like Benzilan,which has a strong religious atmosphere,it is necessary to actively guide religions to adapt to socialist society,giving full play to the endogenous forces of the countryside and achieving “embedded”governance.
