Tradition And Transmutation: Authority And Order In Rural Daily Life Practice

This article employs social anthropology methods, and selects"lineage branch,"and focus on the fragment piece of the whole lineage system in a lineage village located at Southeast Hubei Province. We observe varieties of endogenous social relationship and different layers of power authority in daily life in the village, and display the behavior logic embedded in different entities basing on villages' common identification of "public and private concepts ", which construct and maintain authoritative acknowledge of social order.From the angle of action unit, lineage branch, village council, and committee are basic structure of local village, and also they are identified by common villagers. This authority structure and authoritative acknowledge are made by the interaction from tradition to transmutation, which base on the special public concept. So morals and ethics still maintains social order as basic strength. Due to the interaction between the village and external forces , the village constantly keep their cohesion character, even as conscious adjustment the relationship between nation with rural society, the state policy and system practiced in the local rural social is also hard to bypass the endogenous structural organization and villages form a villagers face state interacting relationship.The formation of rural social order is a historical and cultural accumulation process, and its change and reconstruction as rural social transformation and change are probably originated in a realistic reason that modern external force into villages and hamlets of endogenous after colliding with traditional power balance each other results. On the horizon, the state and society, the author holds that, rural social order of the establishment and maintain is not only dependent on gradually declined traditional and produces correlation to prevent with modern state power. Therefore, in the rural social order of the establishment and maintain process , the power of the state intervention will become inevitable, but essentially depends on its way to the country's power and produces correlation, namely state power how to intervene the rural society problem.At present, under the guidance of the modernity and the market economy , a lot of human, financial and material loss from the rural society resulting weak and "disorder" of the village ,even "gray localized" ,which has sparked a series of problems and contradictions for China rural society long-term development. State how to build socialistic new countryside, to truly implement on village as the standard construction to let much more farmers feel "belonging" and "intimacy" in the village , has already need incumbent policy and practice.
