Pedaling cadences and surface incline are two key factors in cycling. The purpose of this study is investigate the effects of different pedaling cadences and surface inclines on lower extremity muscle activity. This study analyzed how EMG signal of 7 lower extremity muscles change. We were collected by 16 cyclists at 250 W cross three pedaling cadences(60rpm,90 rpm,120rpm)and two surface inclines(level,15% uphill grade).Result showed that the pedaling cadences and surface inclines have an significant interaction effect on the burst onset and activate duration of Rectus femoris and the peak magnitude of Tibialis anterior. The burst onset of Biceps femoris,Gastrocnemius and Soleus showed significant effect under different pedaling cadences. The burst offset of Biceps femoris,Gluteus maximus,Rectus femoris and Tibialis anterior showed significant effect under different pedaling cadences(P<0.05).The burst duration of Biceps femoris,Tibialis anterior,Gluteus maximus and Rectus femoris showed significant effect under different pedaling cadences. The peak magnitude of Rectus femoris,Biceps femoris,Tibialis anterior,Gastrocnemius and Gluteus maximus showed significant effect under different pedaling cadences, and peak timing of Tibialis anterior(P<0.05).Surface incline effect were observed in the onset of Rectus femoris;the duration of Rectus femoris, the offset of Tibialis anterior, the peak timing of Gluteus maximus and Tibialis anterior(P<0.05).Therefore,these result indicate that pedaling cadence influence the lower extremity muscular activity in addition to the surface incline effect.
