A core value that distinguishes social work from other helping professionals is“helping people to help themselves”,which is generally broken down into the words“helping others” and “self-help”.That is,social work professionals provide services, dig resources and personal potential to promote for individuals, families, communities, and groups who face difficulties to promote prosumer's self-help.However,current social work tends to focus on "helping others".The helping service does not mobilize the subjectivity of the service object, resulting in the lack of "self-help".This article is based on the implementation and evaluation of a professional service project participated by the author's internship in the welfare institute, and discusses why a service project that is“successful” from the logic of project management turns out to be a “failed” one from the logic of professional values. One important reason is that the implementation of this project emphasizes “helping others” instead of “self-help”.The project not only lacks the mobilization of subjectivity of the service target, but also does not devote to fostering and empowerment, and improves the environment. As a result, the service effect is short-term and lacks sustainability. In this paper, the data collection method(participating in observation and interviewing methods)are used as the basis for practice reflection.Firstly, the author combine the completeness of social work service projects and the expertise of social work services to evaluate the internship in the welfare institutions. The project was evaluated as“successful” based on the project's completeness from the perspective of external evaluation, but from the perspective of internal service self-assessment,the project is evaluated by from professional value assessment as a “failure”,or a state in which presentation is not completed.Because in the project design and implementation,"helping others" but lacking "self-help" caused the project and other traditional non-professionals toimplement projects that did not have outstanding professionalism. The unfinished work involves the insufficiency of “self-help” ability in the service process, followed by “the activation of the self-worth of the service target, the practical ability to organize, and cooperate, and the ability to change the ability of the target” of “helping others”.Three aspects are used as a measure to analyze the lack of “self-help” abilities of this social work service project. Then the author reflects on if social work service practice based on“self-help” training capacity,it should be based on the case level, resource interaction level, and organizational capability level.Three aspects of the service plan were redesigned. The author hopes to provide some materials for social work services through this article, and to provide some references and lessons for latecomers,so as to warn us of the pitfalls of the logic of project operations in our future social work service projects, and launch professional value-added operations in addition to project operational requirements to pursue the substantial success of the project, that is,the service highlights the professional value and the project design takes into account the professional logic.
