A Study About Youth's Premarital Cohabitation And The Age Of First Marriage In China

According to many studies,just as western industrialized countries,the age of first marriage in China are showing a trend of delay.However,at present,few scholars have discussed the relationship between premarital cohabitation and age of first marriage.Based on different social realities,many scholars hold controversial opinions: delay and promote.To same extents,those kind of researches need to be extended on the depth of premarital cohabitation,and few researches thought about the reality of China,so that we don't know how to chose when explaining and understanding the relationship between youth's premarital cohabitation and the age of first marriage in China.Considering what has been discussed above,this study,using the data of China Family Panel Studies from 2010 to 2014,from the perspective of life course,taking the method of Event History Analysis,focus on the question whether premarital cohabitation happens or not and the time of premarital cohabitation can influence the age of first marriage.The conclusions of this study are as follows.First,premarital cohabitation can promote the age of first marriage.Having the experience of cohabitation before marriage increases the risk of first marriage and may advance the age of first marriage.Second,the time of premarital cohabitation affects the youth's age of first marriage.Specifically speaking,Early entry into pre-marital cohabitation may advance the age of first marriage of young people.The stage of marriage in which young people live together may have different effects on the occurrence of first marriage,as opposed to the early stage of early marriage,young people who enter into pre-marital cohabitation in suitable stage are more likely to have first marriage,and those who enter into pre-marital cohabitation in late stage will be less likely to have first marriage.The age matching mode of pre-marital cohabitation will have an impact on the occurrence of first marriage.The age matching pattern in which a man is older the woman female has a higher risk of first marriage.Finally,birth group also has an effect on the age of first marriage.The risk of first marriage in early group was higher than that in late birth group.
