STEM is an acronym and a collective term for Science,Technology,Engineering,and Mathematics which reflects an interdisciplinary integration mode.As the highest level of school education,postgraduate education is responsible for cultivating high-level,high-quality,specialized,and innovative talents.The innovation of postgraduate cultivating mode is crucial to improving the quality of postgraduate education.As "The best university of the world's science and engineering",MIT STEM disciplines are on the leading position in United States and the world.The reason that MIT can cultivate many prestigious top talents is inextricably linked to the unique STEM interdisciplinary mode and innovative postgraduate cultivating mode.Therefore,going deep into studying the MIT STEM postgraduate cultivating mode is helpful to provide a theoretical reference to the interdisciplinary postgraduate education and to establish a new postgraduate cultivating mode that conforms China's national conditions and the characteristics of universities.This article takes the theme of MIT STEM postgraduate cultivating mode.At first,it describes the history and development of the MIT STEM postgraduate cultivating mode.After that,it introduces the current condition of the MIT STEM postgraduate cultivating mode from the aspects of postgraduate education principle and cultivating objectives,cultivating Institutional standards,curriculum system,coordination mechanism and quality assurance mechanism,then it refines the characteristics of the MIT STEM postgraduate cultivating mode.Finally,it conducts a comparative analysis of the successful experience of the MIT postgraduate STEM cultivating mode and the existing issues of the postgraduate cultivating mode in China,then summarizes the inspiration of MIT STEM postgraduate cultivating mode to the innovation of postgraduate cultivating mode and the construction of “ Double First-class”and“New Engineering”in China.
