Biology in Junior high school is a course to cultivate junior high school students' core qualities.However,in the rural areas of Shanxi Province where the Biology Department does not belong to the high junior school examination,the biology classes are not valued.There are many problems in biology teaching.This paper takes the survey of six junior high schools in Fangshan County and the status of junior middle school biology teaching in this county was investigated.During this survey,the author randomly sent 700 questionnaires to the students of the six middle schools.It mainly surveyed the basic conditions of the students in this area,the standing of the junior middle school biology teaching,the circumstances of biology teaching(including teaching methods,teaching strategies,etc.)and junior high school biology teaching evaluation.Then the author interviewed 12 serving biological teachers in the six middle schools.The interviews included the basic situation of the in-service biology teachers in junior high schools,the teaching methods used in the classroom,teaching strategies,and teaching evaluation.After finishing the investigation,the data collected were analyzed.And it was found that the teaching status of the junior middle school biology in the area is: biological teaching is generally not taken seriously;biological experimental teaching is particularly neglected;the overall quality of students is not high;the professional level of biological teachers is uneven;There are few arrangements for biology classes,traditional old-fashioned teaching methods,and lack of vitality in biology classrooms.The causes of these problems are very complicated.The author believes that in order to solve these problems,it is necessary to take a targeted approach according to the actual situation in Fangshan County.Therefore,the authorproposes the following suggestions.Gradually changing the concept that from students,teachers,to parents who think that biology is not important;attaching importance to biology teaching;improving the teaching ability of biology teachers through training,continuing education,and strengthening teaching and research activities;changing the traditional teaching methods and optimize Biology teaching.Formulating reasonable and effective biological teaching evaluation.In view of the severe shortage of experimental teaching,higher education departments need to be able to increase their capital investment,and standard equipment should be provided according to the requirements of the junior high school biology curriculum.The school must also invest the necessary experimental funds for the purchase of experimental drugs and experimental materials after the experiment is opened to ensure the normal establishment of experimental courses.
