In the past ten years,with the progress of economic globalization and increasingly fierce international competition,through science,technology,engineering and mathematics(STEM)to train skilled labor and has become the focus of attention of governments around the world,and the importance of STEM Education is also growing.As more and more countries begin to pay attention to STEM education,the Australian government and education departments will also strengthen STEM education as an important implementation path for talent strategy,and hope to pursue their own leap-forward development by summarizing the successful experiences of other countries.The article is divided into five parts.The first chapter outlines the motivations that Australia attaches to the development of STEM education.Due to the influence of the international STEM education development trend in recent years,the decline of Australian students' PISA scores,and the growing demand for composite talents in professional positions,Australia's STEM education has received full attention and extensive attention.The second chapter introduces the indemnificatory policies issued by Australia at the national level to promote the development of STEM education and the indemnificatory measures taken by the states,which provide great support for the development of STEM education.The third chapter analyzes the specific practice of STEM education in Australia,and discusses the implementation of STEM education from four perspectives: the goal of STEM education in Australia,the implementation approach,the STEM curriculum and teaching mode,and the measures taken in cultivating teachers.The main field of STEM education in Australia is primary and secondary education,which is mainly manifested through project-based curriculum.The fourth chapter analyzes the challenges it faces in the current development process.There are some problems such as the shortage of qualified STEM teachers and the low registration rate of STEM subjects.And this paper analyzes the gap between the development achievements and ideal goals of STEM education in Australia.In the last chapter,through the detailed discussion of the previous several parts,the author summarizes the characteristics of STEM education in Australia,such as encouraging women to participate in STEM education,actively organizing and carrying out special research projects,innovative construction of interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary STEM project curriculum group,etc.And combined with the current situation of STEM education development in China,the author analyzes the development experience of STEM education in Australia and its enlightenment for the development of STEM education in China.
