In the past 40 years, the self-employed and the private small enterprises have played an important role in China's economic and social development. The individual private economy is related to the livelihood of hundreds of millions of people in our country. Its business scope is also closely related to all aspects of our lives.Their existence satisfies the needs of China's social material culture and many other aspects. With the slogan of "mass entrepreneurship and innovation" in 2014,a new wave of innovation and entrepreneurship has flourished throughout the country, and the number of individuals engaged in individual and private economy has once again been "boomed".In the private economy, there are a large number of private small business owners who devoted themselves to the "entrepreneurial" group in the early stages of China's economic reform.Today, some of these small business owners have retired, while others are about to reach retirement age.It can be said that these small business owners will face the problem of intergenerational inheritance of the industry sooner or later. This study explores the intergenerational occupational mobility of small business owners in society from the perspective of social stratification and social mobility theory. The article adopts qualitative research method, and takes Jiashan County of Zhejiang Province as a case study, through literature method and interview method,to understand the current intergenerational occupational flow between individual industrial and commercial households and private small enterprises and the specific factors that affect the choice of occupations of two generations. And dialogue between mainstream views in the field of social mobility research.Through the research, this study finds that there is a high degree of mobility in the types of occupations between the generations of small business owners, and there is a clear trend of"child inheritance" in the movement of social status embodied in the occupations. These conclusions are unlike the mainstream judgment of the current academic circles. In terms of the factors that influence the generation of occupational mobility among small business owners, this study finds that although there are differences in the specific factors that influence the generation of intergenerational occupational mobility, both institutional factors and self-contained factors played a significant role in the process of two generations of occupational mobility, and the influence of predisposition factors was significantly enhanced. This conclusion is also different from the mainstream judgment that "with the time migration, the influence of predisposition factors is weakened, and the self-contained factors are enhanced".Therefore, this study believes that compared with the current situation of social integral mobility, the intergenerational occupational mobility of the private small business owner class has the unique characteristics of the class.State policy, social culture and the parent class, these three mechanisms of influence play a clear role in the intergenerational occupational mobility of small business owners.
