| In 2015,General Secretary Xi Jinping wrote in a reply to the teachers from Guizhou Province who participated in the training in the “Guopei” classroom: “Let the children in poor areas receive a good education is an important task for poverty alleviation and development, and also an important way to prevent the intergenerational transmission of poverty." The intergenerational transmission phenomenon mentioned in the letter still happens to us.For example,it is not uncommon for parents to let their children receive a better education and obtain better jobs through the resources they have accumulated. This will inevitably lead to families with higher social status, the higher the social status of their offspring, the less chance for poor children to achieve social stride upwards, and the phenomenon of intergenerational social class solidification. In order to solve the problem of social status and solidification of social classes,we need to study how we can promote the flow of intergenerational classes and apply the right medicine to rationally allocate social resources and achieve the "Pareto optimal" state of the entire society. It is of great theoretical and practical significance to study the problem of intergenerational class mobility. From a theoretical point of view, intergenerational class mobility has always been a hot issue for economists and sociologists, but in China’s research on intergenerational class mobility,it is mainly the individual’s education level or individual occupation level as the main explanatory variable, this paper starts with the study of intergenerational education mobility and occupational mobility, and studies methods to improve intergenerational class mobility, which complements the theoretical research of intergenerational class mobility. From a practical point of view,a developed modern civilized country must have a social class with good mobility. Therefore,if China is to build a prosperous, strong and democratic modern country,it must resolve the structural contradictions of social class differentiation and mobility, and avoid the negative effects brought about by the consolidation of social classes. The research in this paper hopes to provide decision-making basis for improving the distribution of educational resources, strengthening intergenerational education and the upward mobility of intergenerational occupations, and then breaking the solidification of intergenerational social strata and promoting the upward mobility of lower social strata.Based on related theories such as intergenerational mobility, social mobility and social stratification, this paper combines the current status of intergenerational class mobility in urban and rural areas, different regions and different income levels, uses 2015 CGSS data as a database, and uses Multionmial Logit regression models. The effect of intergenerational education mobility and occupational mobility on intergenerational mobility in a sample of households in overall, urban and rural areas, different regions, and different income levels was studied. In the follow-up study,Multionmial Logit model was used to study the influencing factors of intergenerational education mobility and intergenerational occupational mobility in low-income and middle income families(including middle and low income families, middle income families and middle and high income families). The regression conclusions of the empirical part of this article are as follows: First, the upward mobility of intergenerational education, the succession of intergenerational occupations, and the upward mobility of intergenerational occupations can significantly increase the probability of upward mobility of intergenerational classes, and the effect of intergenerational occupational upward mobility is most obvious.Second, for urban and rural areas, different regions, and different income levels, there are differences in the effects of intergenerational educational mobility and intergenerational occupational mobility on intergenerational mobility.Among them, for low-income families, educational factors can significantly promote upward mobility of intergenerational classes;for middle-income families, intergenerational occupational mobility is the main factor affecting upward generational mobility; For high-income families, neither education nor occupation affects intergenerational mobility.Third, for low-income families, intergenerational educational mobility is affected not only by the parent’s educational level, but also by the parent’s occupational level, the family’s income level, the offspring’s gender, and household registration.Fourth, for middle-income families, intergenerational occupational mobility is affected not only by the parent’s occupational level, but also by the educational level of the offspring, the level of family income, and the age of the offspring. Finally,on the basis of empirical research results,in order to promote the intergenerational upward mobility of low-income families, rural families and families in the western region, the corresponding policy recommendations are put forward. |
