A Research On The Impact Of The World Robot Olympiad On Participating Students

With the development of science and technology,robot is not only limited to industrial application and research institute,it has entered the field of education.Robot education emphasizes the use of both hands and brain,which is an important way to cultivate students' innovative and practical ability.Robot competition has attracted worldwide attention because of its requirement for the overall ability of participants.In order to study the impact of the global robot competition on the participating students,the researchers took the World Robot Olympiad(WRO)as an opportunity to investigate the participants,their coaches and parents through online and offline questionnaires and on-site interviews.The results of quantitative analysis show that: 1)WRO has a significant positive impact on the participants' learning ability,emotional engagement,career/major choice,21 st century skills and global awareness;2)WRO has the greatest impact on students' emotional engagement in the three perspectives;3)There are significant differences between students' perspectives on the five dimensions of research and the views of coaches and parents.Coaches and parents have higher recognition of the positive effects of WRO than students,and the average scores of each dimension are higher than students' answers.In addition,through interviews,this study found that WRO not only has a profound impact on students in the above five aspects,but also can change students' daily life,enrich students' personality,help admission,harvest international friendship and so on.
