The development and application of robotics are putting forward new requirements to robot education. Currently, robot education is still at its beginning stage, there are many questions remain unanswered. STS (science, technology and society) education emphasizes on the interaction between science, technology and society. By the analysis of basis elements in robot education, it is meaningful that conducting robot education researches from the perspective of STS education and integrating STS education theory into robot education. It provides a new idea to robot education and can solve some problems in current robot education.Five main parts are involved in this dissertation, which are related with robot education.The first part is a start point and basis of this research. The development and application of robotics, the spread influence of robot education and problems in current robot education are discussed.The second part is theoretical interpretation. It is the theoretical foundation of integrating STS education theory into robot education. The relevant literacy on the STS education is reviewed, such as connotation, features and implementation of STS education. A discussion on the relationship between STS education and the development of. scientific literacy, science and technology education, and robot education is conducted.The third part is a foundation of robot education research. Basic problems in robot education are analyzed, such as the sort, implementation and the carriers of robot education, the professional development of robot education teacher and so on.The fourth part is an innovative research based on STS education theory and robot education. Taking robot education in elementary and secondary school for example, a framework of integrating STS education theory into robot instruction is proposed. There are four parts in this framework: improving student's scientific literacy as instructional goal, integrating with STS instructional materials, giving the students enough space to learn as instructional strategy, and diversified evaluation.The fifth part is a research on robot competition. The relationship between robot competition and robot education and basic elements in robot competition is discussed. A questionnaire survey and interview from robot competition participators is conducted. Based on all of these, robot competition curriculum is proposed as a strategy which can integrate robot competition with robot education.
