Purpose:the aim of this study was to observe the effect of a six weeks low intensity circuit resistance training in hypoxia on weight loss and strength development of overweight men.Methods:Sixteen overweight male sea-level residents without systematic strength training in the recent one year were randomly assigned into hypoxia group?simulated altitude 2500m?and control group?normoxic condition?.Each circuit resistance training consisted of 25 repetitions of bench press,lunge,deadlift,push up,back squat at 30%1RM and 1 minute plank with no rest between exercises.The subjects finished 4 circuits with 2 minutes rest interval.Circuit resistance training program performed three times a week?four times a week in the last three weeks?for six weeks.Heart rate?HR?and blood oxygen saturation?SPO2?were monitored during the training.Body composition,blood lipid,absolute strength,isometric strength,maximum oxygen uptake and peak power output were measured at pre and post experiment.Results:?1?The body weight,BMI,body fat rate and fat mass?p<0.05?at post experiment of the hypoxia group were significantly lower than those at pre experiment.The percentage body fat decreased significantly compare pre and post experiment in the control group?p<0.05?,but there were no significant difference in body weight,BMI and fat mass.?2?High density lipoprotein?HDL?in control group increased significantly?p<0.05?.?3?After the experiment,the 3RM of bench press,deadlift and back squat in the hypoxia group and the control group increased significantly compared with that before the experiment?p<0.05?,but there was no significant difference between the two groups.Conclusion:Circuit resistance training at simulated altitude of 2500m for six weeks can significantly improve body composition.Circuit resistance training for six weeks can significantly improve muscle strength.Circuit resistance training at simulated altitude of 2500m for six weeks cannot improve blood lipid.
