The 3rd and 4th grades of primary school are the transitional stage of primary school writing teaching,which plays an important role in connecting the writing teaching in the lower grades and preparing for the study in the higher years.However,in the middle grades,some students are afraid of writing due to their difficulties in adapting to the transition from writing to writing.Therefore,how to arouse students’ interest in writing and develop abilities required for the exercises has become the direction of teachers’ attention.Picture books,with their advantages of interest and combination of pictures and texts,have become the focus of this paper while being paid attention to in the teaching of reading and writing.This paper will broaden the extension of picture books and extend picture books to the field of exercise teaching.Starting from the exercise goal of "Chinese Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education"(2011 Edition),combining with the psychological development characteristics of middle-aged primary school students with specific thinking in images and the current situation of students’ exercises,the paper will explore the causes of the problem of exercise and the value of picture books in the exercise teaching of middle-aged primary school students.Five values of picture books are found and summarized,namely,stimulating students’ interest in writing,improving students’ material accumulation ability,enhancing students’ observation ability,developing students’ imagination ability and improving students’ thinking ability.According to the special value and implementation possibility of picture books in the field of writing teaching,this paper puts forward three training strategies.One is to read picture books with the help of pictures and texts;the second is to promote speaking through reading,encourage students to present picture books by themselves;the third is to try to write in various forms.The training strategies of reading,speaking and writing with picture books aim to help students improve their interest in and ability of writing.Finally,the thesis combined the training strategy,chose two typical themes of narration and human description,and made two teaching designs: learning to write imaginary stories and grasping the people’s characteristics to describe their features.By presenting the teaching design,the author tried to broaden the thinking of the writing teaching and provide reference for the middle grades writing teaching by using picture books.
