The focus of this paper is the teaching pedagogy of primary and secondary Music teaching programs.This paper investigates the preparation of music teachers in primary and secondary schools and aims to determine whether they can meet the requirements of the new curriculum reform for the practitioners of basic music education.Furthermore,the paper puts forward strategies for improving Music teachers’ preparation.The researcher collects and analyses literature about training programs of Master of Education in Music majors in three types of universities.the researcher analyzes the professional skills,classroom teaching and artistic practice activities of primary and secondary music teachers at Chaoyang District of Beijing and Lixia District of Jinan City using questionnaires and interviews,and it also lays out a practical teaching of music in primary and secondary schools.Supported by the case study,this paper studies ways to improve the ability of music teachers in three aspects: the cultivation of professional skills,the accumulation of experience in classroom teaching and comprehensive development.The introduction explains the reason and significance of this research,the research status and research methods in China and abroad.ChapterⅠ: The researcher gives an overview of the training programs for Master of Education in Music,and then it gives an overview of the required abilities of music teachers in primary and secondary schools.Then,the author collects and analyzes the data of the questionnaire survey of music teachers in Chaoyang District of Beijing,a first-tier city,and music teachers with Master’s degrees in Lixia District of Jinan,a second-tier city.Based on the analysis,it reveals the current situation of music teachers’ ability in primary and secondary schools.Chapter Ⅱ: The researcher analyzes the results of the survey and the curriculum of the training program for the Master of Education in Music major in order to find the source of the problem.Chapter Ⅲ : The researcher combines the case analysis under the practice teaching and the analysis of the questionnaire on the current situation of Music teachers’ ability in primary and secondary schools to suggest ways to improve music teachers’ ability in three aspects: professional skills,classroom teaching and comprehensive quality.
