| This dissertation gives an account of the history of music education of primary and secondary schools in Taiwan from year of1895to2010. It includes3major periods as1895-1945,1945-1986and1987-2010, which can be divided specifically into6periods for further discussion:The early period of western music education in Taiwan(before1895), the Period of Japanese Occupation (1895-1945), the reconstruction period of Kuomintang government ruled after World War II (1945-1967), the period of nine-year compulsory education(1968-1986),the period of education reformation after the lifting of martial law (1987-1995) and the nine year integrated curriculum reform period(1995-2010). By historical methods, the materials presented here were gathered mainly from literature, documents and on-the-spot investigation. Taking the time as clues, this dissertation studies the development of relevant decrees and regulations, music curriculum standards, the teaching materials and methods, music teachers’preparation of primary and secondary schools in Taiwan, attempts to introduce and summarize the characteristics of music education in Taiwan, put forward suggestions and make some achievements in order to provide reference for promote music education in primary and secondary schools in mainland China. |
