"Generation 90s'hair loss"has become a hot topic.With the deepening of social transformation,young people sense greater social anxiety.In consumer society,young people are more actively involved in the commercialization of the body.Through the study of 16 respondents,combined with their physical identification,body management and commercial practices,this paper analyzes how the anxiety of Generation 90s' hair loss can be constructed and responded in the background of the broader context of social transformation of ChinaThe first part of essay discusses how hair loss can become a problem of physical anxiety.The construction and management of hair loss is not only a matter of physical discipline in Foucault's sense,but also that of the interaction between discourse,body and identity.Young people's hair loss manifests as a kind of existential anxiety,which is a response to individual physical problem in the Risk Society.The development of the Internet has increased the risk of the technical society,while the attention to the body has reached an unprecedented height.However,young people try to manage body by creating an entertaining youth subcultureThe second part of essay focuses on the commercial process of young people's bodies in consumer society.Young people actively construct the consumption discourse of the body and engage in the alleviation of their anxiety of hair loss through purchasing.As post 90's have become leading customers of the hair loss industry,the culture of consumerism has inseparably interwoven with the process of identity formation among post 90's.The third part of essay discusses how young people deal with the anxiety of hair loss through physical strategies.Not to mention,participation in the market of hair loss industry,as a way of consumption,undeniably contributes to the reproduction of the consumption society but,however slim,it might provide an opening for the probe of alternative narratives on identity.In this vein,physical management,indeed,might become a space of"life politics"of young people.The question is whether or not the morality of the consumer society would provide young generation with extended freedom,from the traditional taboos on physical identity and its management,to explore different ways of self-presentation.
