| Creativity has been identified as the ability to create product that is original and appropriate. The middle school stage is the period of the fastest individual development, which includes the development of creativity,so it is of great significance to explore the factors and mechanism of middle school students’ creativity.According to the ecological system theory of creativity, both individual and environmental factors interact to influence individual development. As an important personality characteristic, need for cognition has an important influence on individual creativity.Environmental variables are creative promoters, and family is the most important environment for adolescents,in which parental involvement has been proved to be an vital variable to promote the growth and development of children. How these two factors work together on creativity is the main concern of this study.Based on the above problems, this study adopted Runco Creativity Assessment Battery(rCAB),the scale and Perceptions of parents Scale(POPS)compiled by Grolnick,Deci and Ryan(1991)to measuring tools.32 classes students in five middle schools in ji’nan(including two junior high schools, three senior high schools)participated in the study and their need for cognition, parental involvement, and creativity were measured. The main conclusions of this study were as follows:1.Need for cognition significantly positively predicted creativity, and this relationship was moderated by parental involvement.2.The moderating role of paternal involvement differed between junior and senior high school students. In junior high schools, female students’ cognitive needs were significantly positive predictors of creativity(flexibility).when maternal involvement was low.Cognitive needs was more strongly related tocreativity(flexibility)when there was high maternal involvement. In senior high schools,no matter boys or girls, cognitive needs were significantly positive predictors of creativity(flexibility)when maternal involvement was low. |
