With the advancement of the new curriculum reform,the compilation of textbooks conforming to the "High School Chemistry Curriculum Standards" is a very important part of the high school chemistry curriculum reform.Nowadays,the combination of pictures and texts has become a common feature of textbooks in various countries.Illustrations present space and details in visual way.However,they are difficult to express accurately in words.Illustrations can easily stimulate learners' learning motivation,they can mobilize multiple senses to participate in learning,promote overall memory,imagination and understanding and increase the dynamic sense of knowledge and information while affecting non-cognitive factors of learners.This paper mainly consists of four parts: The first part summarizes the research background,purpose and significance,and puts forward the research contents and methods on the basis of the research status of illustrations in textbooks at home and abroad.The second part is the theoretical basis of this paper: constructivism theory,multiple intelligence theory,double coding theory and cognitive load theory.The third part is the core of this paper.It mainly studies the illustrations in the first thirteen chapters of A-Level Chemistry Textbook in Britain.The characteristics of illustrations in this textbook are as follows: 1.The number of illustrations is large,the clarity is high;2.The knowledge is extensive,the content is deep;3.Providing tacit knowledge.;4.Strong representativeness;5.Emphasizing micro-interpretation.The fourth part is to compare and analyze the content of following five parts: quantity of substance,redox reaction,nitrogen and sulfur,atomic structure and chemical reaction rate with the illustrations in Chinese textbooks published by Chinese Educational Press.At the same time to put forward some suggestions on the compilation of illustrations in Chinese textbooks: 1.Focusing on the basis;2.Embodying the times;3.Emphasizing the life;4.Striving for innovation;5.Diversifying the types.
