Picture books are illustrated and colorful reading materials,which conform to the cognitive characteristics of lower grade schoolchild.It is internationally recognized as the most suitable book for children and lower grade schoolchild.The picture book reading is an indispensable and important part in the reading experience of lower grade schoolchild.It is conducive to the improvement of the language comprehensive ability,aesthetic ability,imagination,etc.of lower grade schoolchild,as well as the cultivation of children's interest in reading.It plays an important role in the growth of lower grade pupils.With the continuous progress in building a nationwide reading society,picture book reading has attracted more and more attention.In order to promote the reading of picture books by elementary school students in the lower grade,the primary task at present is to have an in-depth study of the current situation of picture book reading.In this study,questionnaire survey was adopted to investigate the reading situation of picture books of lower grade students in four primary schools in Nantong.The survey mainly involves the reading interest,reading habits,reading materials and reading environment of the lower grade students in picture books.Based on the analysis of the current situation of picture book reading of lower grade schoolchild,it is found that most of them like to read picture books,among which girls like reading more than boys and are in a better state of reading.Boys and girls have some differences in the types of picture books they like.In addition,second-year students read picture books for longer than first-year students and were more focused.Lower grade schoolchild read picture books frequently and in various ways.Most students read their favorite picture books repeatedly.At the same time,there are some problems in the reading of picture books for lower grade schoolchild : insufficient interest in reading,poor reading habits,and lack of reading environment.This paper aims at the problems existing in the reading of picture books for the lower grade students,some suggestions are put forward from three aspects: parents,schools and society.First,parents should improve their ability to guide them in reading picture books.The main place where students read picture books is at home.Parents should actively create a good family reading environment for them,establish a correct view of reading picture books,and improve their guidance ability.Secondly,the school leads to promote the reading of picture books for lower grade students.School life occupies most of students' time,so the schoolshould create a strong atmosphere for reading picture books on campus and build a good reading platform for students.In addition,schools should play the role of a link between families and society to jointly promote the development of picture book reading for junior school students.Finally,the society provides a variety of picture book reading resources.The society should actively build rich network resources of picture book reading,expand various forms of picture book reading,and create a good reading environment for community.
