This paper explores the influence of student associations at secondary vocational schools, especially the profession-oriented associations,by using literature review, questionnaire survey, case interview(teacher interview, student interview, corporate interview).on the improvement of the students' professional literacy based on the iceberg theory, the theories of comprehensive human development and Theory of practical activity. Then taking Zhongshan First Secondary Vocational Technical School and Foshan Chencun Vocational Technical School as examples,The status quo of the participation of secondary vocational students in these profession-oriented student associations was investigated by examining the motivation behind the participation, the number of participants, and the degree of participation. On the basis of which the comprehensive analysis on the influence of the three aspects will be conducted,Including whether it is wise for secondary vocational students to participate in such associations, and the influence of the participation towards the students' professional beliefs, professional knowledge and skills,as well as professional behaviors and habits. The status of secondary vocational students participating in these profession-oriented associations and whether such associations have been able to fulfill the expectations of the individual participants are directly related to the growth and improvement of these associations, the quality and scale of the associations' construction strategy, and even more so towards the interests of students in learning more about their future professions and the improvement of their professional literacy. The survey revealed that the internal motivations of secondary vocational students participating in professional student associations are more inclined to expanding one's social networking circle and enhancing his/her professional knowledge. Some students mainly aim to improve themselves and enrich their academic life, which indicates the existence of a big gap between the actual needs and the superficial needs behind the participation. Most of the students' level of understanding is superficial, while only a small number of students join the profession-oriented associations to achieve their professional goals and improve their professional literacy. It can be seen from the motivation of the students that there is still a large discrepancy in the capacity of the profession-oriented associations to promote the students' professional literacy because these associations have failed so far to attract more participation and to effectively stimulate its potential to improve the students' professional literacy. Moreover, the level of participation of its internal membersis also low, which can be reflected from the total number of participation in the associations' activities, the closeness and familiarity of the interactions, and the frequency of participation in the activities.Apart from this,,the low level of participation is also related to the quality of the activities and the standard of the internal management, which has little to do with the conditions of the members themselves. The abovementioned study, which focuseson the influence of profession-oriented student associations at secondary vocational schools on the improvement of the students' professional literacy, has found that the associations restrict the development of the students' professional literacy because of the following four factors. That is,The development is limited by material conditions, the limited experience of professional instructorsat the associations, the unsophisticated assessment system, and the poor quality of the activities in terms of its organization forms.Several fundamental suggestions will be summarized for future research by analyzing existing research, spreading questionnaires,as well as interviews with the associations' instructors, students, and partner companies. And the purpose of which is to strengthenthe capacity of profession-oriented student associations at the secondary vocational schools in promoting the students' professional literacy, from the perspectives of the school, the academic affairs department and the Communist Youth League,as well as the organization of the student associations.
